36. Benefit of reciting Tirumandiram

Verse 36

மூலன் உரைசெய்த மூவா யிரந்தமிழ்
ஞாலம் அறியவே நந்தி அருளது
காலை எழுந்து கருத்தறிந் தோதிடின்
ஞாலத் தலைவனை நண்ணலும் ஆமே.

Translation:

The three thousand verses composed by Mulan

Is the grace of nandi so that the world will know.

If recited waking up in the morning

It will be possible to approach the chief of the world.

Commentary: There is a conjecture that some of the verses of Tirumandiram may be later additions.  This verse seems to one such verse.  So far Tirumular has referred to himself in the first person.  In this verse he suddenly switches to third person.  However, the essence of the verse is that if one gets up in the morning and recites the 3000 verses one would get close to the lord of the universe.

திருமந்திரத்தில் உள்ள பாடல்களில் சில இடைச்செருகலாக இருக்குமோ என்று சில உரையாளர்கள் கருதுகின்றனர்.  இப்பாடல் அத்தகைய இடைச்செருகல் போலத் தோன்றுகிறது.  இப்பாடல் வரை திருமூலர் தன்னைப் பற்றித் தன்மையில் கூறியுள்ளார்.  இப்பாடலில் திடீரென படர்க்கையில் தன்னைக் குறிக்கிறார்.  அது எவ்வாறு இருக்கினும் இப்பாடல் ஒரு முக்கியமான கருத்தை நமக்குக் கூறுகிறது.  தினமும் காலையில் எழுந்து திருமந்திரத்தின் பாடல்களைக் கருத்தூன்றிப் படித்தால் உலகத்தலைவனான இறைவனை அணுகலாம் என்று இப்பாடல் நமக்கு அறிவுறுத்துகிறது.
