28. I came in the path of Kailaya

Verse 28

விளக்கிப் பரமாகும் மெய்ஞ்ஞானச் சோதி
அளப்பில் பெருமையன் ஆனந்த நந்தி
துளக்கறும் ஆனந்தக் கூத்தன்சொற் போந்து
வளப்பிற் கயிலை வழியில்வந் தேனே.

Translation:

The meijnana jyothi that makes it clear and becomes param

The immeasurably glorious, blissful Nandhi

Following his words, that of the blissful dancer

I came in the path of the kayilai.

Commentary:  Tirumular says that he came in the path of Kailaya, following the command of Nandi, the Supreme. He calls the Nandi as the one who makes it clear.  Nandhi is consciousness which reveals everything, the supreme light of knowledge that confers bliss up on realization. Kailaya has several meanings.  Geographically it refers to the Himalayas.  This verse has led to several commentators claiming that he was from North India who came to the South and composed this work.  However, Kailaya also refers to the sahasrara.  This then indicates that Tirumular descended from the supreme state of consciousness experienced at Sahasrara to the lower state in which he composed Tirumandiram. 

Tirumular is said to belong to the Kailaya parampara.  Some call the lineage that follows from him as moola varga.

நந்தி, ஆனந்த கூத்தனின் கட்டளையை மேற்கொண்டு தான் கயிலாய வழியில் வந்தேன் என்று திருமூலர் கூறுகிறார்.  நந்தியை “விளக்கும் நந்தி” என்கிறார் திருமூலர்.  நந்தி என்பது உயருணர்வு நிலை.  அனைத்தையும் உணரவைக்கும் நிலை.  இந்த அறிவு ஆனந்தத்தை அளிக்கிறது. 

கைலாயம் என்பதற்குப் பல பொருள்கள் உள்ளன.  உலக வழக்கில் இமயமலை கைலாயம் எனப்படுகிறது.  கைலாய வழியின் வந்தேன் என்று திருமூலர் கூறுவது அவர் வட இந்தியாவிலிருந்து தென்னிந்தியா வந்தார் என்பதைக் காட்ட என்று சில விரிவுரையாளர்கள் கூறுகின்றனர்.  சஹாஸ்ராரத்தின் பல பெயர்களில் கைலாயம் என்பது ஒன்று.  இதனால் கைலாயத்திலிருந்து வந்தேன் என்பது சஹாஸ்ராரத்தில் உணரப்படும் உயருணர்வு நிலையிலிருந்து உலக உணர்வு நிலைக்கு வந்தேன் என்று திருமூலர் கூறுவதாகவும் பொருள் கொள்ளலாம்.  தான் உயருணர்வு நிலையில் பெற்ற ஞானத்தை உலகமக்களுக்காக அவர் திருமந்திரமாக வடித்தார் என்பதை இது காட்டுகிறது.
