14. Tirumular's talk with Indra

Verse 14

இருந்தஅக் காரணம் கேள்இந் திரனே
பொருந்திய செல்வப் புவனா பதியாம்
அருந்தவச் செல்வியைச் சேவித் தடியேன்
பரிந்துடன் வந்தனன் பத்தியி னாலே.

Translation:

Listen to the reason for staying so, Indra,

The rich Bhuvanaa pathi

Saluting the lady, I

I came along after worshipping, with devotion.

Commentary: Tirumular is addressing Indra in this verse.  Bhuvanaa pathi refers to Sakthi.  The world exists because of her.  She is the power of the Divine and thus is not different from him.  It is sakthi who is the cause of an action.  Hence, before composing the Tirumandiram Tirumular worshipped her with devotion.

இந்திரனிடம் கூறுவதாக அமைந்துள்ள இப்பாடலில் திருமூலர் தாம் இந்த உலகிற்கு வந்ததைக் கூறுகிறார்.  புவனாபதி என்பது இங்கு உலகின் தலைவியான சக்தியைக் குறிக்கும்.  சக்தி இறைவனின் ஒரு அம்சமாகும்.  அவரைவிட வேறுபட்டதல்ல.  செயல்கள் அனைத்தும் சக்தியால் நடைபெறுகின்றன.  அதனால், தான் இவ்வுலக நிலைக்கு வந்து திருமந்திரத்தை இயற்றுவதற்கு முன் திருமூலர் சக்தியை வழிபாட்டு பக்தியுடன் வந்தேன் என்கிறார்.
