21. I remained under the bodhi churning the milk of wisdom for nine crore eons

Verse 21

ஞானத் தலைவிதன் நந்தி நகர்புக்கு
ஊனமில் ஒன்பது கோடி யுகந்தன்னுள்
ஞானப்பா லாட்டி நாதனை அர்ச்சித்து
நானும் இருந்தேன்நற் போதியின் கீழே.

Translation:

Entering the Nandi nagar of the chief lady of wisdom

Within the faultless nine crore eons

Extracting the milk of wisdom, worshipping the Natha

I remained under the good Bodhi.

Commentary: Tirumular calls the state of Nandi as a town of sakthi, the goddess of wisdom.  Nine crore eons means he remained in nine different state for a long time.  This may mean the cakras.  Milk of wisdom is the nectar that descends from the lalata cakra.  Vishnu’s churning of the ocean represents this extraction of the milk of wisdom.  Siddhas refer to the sushumna nadi that proceeds from the muladhara to the sahasrara as a tree.  One wonders whether Tirumular is referring to that concept when he says he was under the Bodhi.  Bodhi also translates to one who grants bodham or wisdom.  In this case it means he was under the grace of the Lord, the Bodhi, who grants bodham. 

திருமூலர் நந்தி நிலையை ஒரு நகரமாக உருவகிக்கிறார்.  அந்த நகரம் ஞானத்தலைவியான சக்தியின் ஊர்.  அங்கு தான் ஒன்பது கோடி யுகம் இருந்தேன் என்கிறார் அவர்.  ஒன்பது கோடி என்பது ஒன்பது விழிப்புணர்வு நிலைகளை/சக்கரங்களைக் குறித்துச் சொல்கிறார் அல்லது மிக அதிகமான நாட்கள் இருந்தேன் என்று கூறுகிறார் என்று கொள்ளலாம்.  இங்கு அவர் ஞானப்பாலாட்டி இருந்தேன் என்பது லலாடத்திலிருந்து அமிர்தத்தைக் கடைந்தெடுத்து உண்டபடி இருந்தேன் என்கிறார் அவர்.  விஷ்ணுவின் பாற்கடலைக் கடையும் புராணக்கதை இதைத்தான் குறிக்கிறது.  சித்தர்கள் மூலாதாரத்திலிருந்து சகஸ்ராரம் வரை செல்லும் சுழுமுனை நாடியை ஒரு மரமாக உருவகிப்பது வழக்கம்.  இந்த மரத்தையே போதி என்று மரம் என்றும் அதன் கீழ் தான் இருந்தேன் அதாவது குண்டலினி யோகத்தில் இருந்தேன் என்று திருமூலர் கூறுகிறார் என்று தோன்றுகிறது.  போதி என்பதற்கு போதத்தைக் கொடுப்பவன் என்று பொருள் கொண்டால் அது இறைவனின் நிழலில் தான் இருந்தேன் என்று அவர் கூறுவதாகப் பொருள்படுகிறது.
