32. No one comprehends the glory of the great flame

Verse 32

ஆர்அறி வார்எங்கள் அண்ணல் பெருமையை
ஆர்அறி வார்அவ் வகலமும் நீளமும்
பேர்அறி யாத பெருஞ்சுடர் ஒன்றதின்
வேர்அறி யாமை விளம்புகின் றேனே.

Translation:

Who knows the fame of our lord

Who knows that length and breadth

The singular great flame whose name is not known

I am saying that not even its root is known.

Commentary:  Thirumular is explaining the greatness of the Lord in this verse.  He exclaims that no one can comprehend the enormity, the magnificence and the supremacy of the lord, the great flame.  Not even a name can be assigned to it lest it limits its glory.  Tirumular says that not even its root or origin could be known.

Saying that one does not know its dimensions represents its enormity, fitting for its name Brahman which means bruhat, that which is big and that which makes anything associating with it big.

இப்பாடலில் திருமூலர் இறைவனின் பெருமையைப் பற்றிப் பேசுகிறார்.  இறைவனின் பெருமையை அனைத்துமாக பிரம்மமாக இருக்கும் தன்மையை ஒருவராலும் அறிந்துகொள்ள இயலாது.  அத்தகைய இறைவனுக்கு ஒரு பெயரை அளிப்பதுகூட சாத்தியமில்லை ஏனெனில் அப்பெயரும் அதன் பெருமைக்குத் தக்கதாக இருக்காது.  அது பெருஞ்சுடர் என்று மட்டுமே கூற இயலும்.  அத்தகைய இறைவனின் வேரைக் கூட அறியமுடியாது என்பதைத் தான் இங்கே கூறுகிறேன் என்கிறார் அவர்.

இறைவனின் நீள அகலங்களை அறியமுடியாது என்று கூறுவது அதன் பெயரான பிரம்மம் என்பதைக் குறிக்கும்.  பிரம்மம் என்பது ப்ருஹத் அல்லது மிகப்பெரியது, தன்னை அடைபவற்றையும் மிகப்பெரியதாக ஆக்குவது என்று பொருள்படும்.
