1,2,25 The one who tore apart the elephant

Verse 25

வானப் பெருங்கொண்டல் மாலயன் வானவர்
ஊனப் பிறவி ஒழிக்கும் ஒருவனைக்
கானக் களிறு கதறப் பிளந்தஎங்
கோனைப் புகழுமின் கூடலு மாமே. 

Translation:

The ocean and sky hued Vishnu, Brahma and celestials

The one who destroys their material birth

My lord who tore apart the elephant

Of the forest, praise him, merge with him.

Commentary: Brahma, Vishnu and the celestials are evolved souls but they are still under the influence of asuddha maya.  It is Siva who cuts their birth in their current form.  The elephant represents the influence of asuddha maya.  Siva tearing the elephant indicates that he is the one who rids souls of the effects of maya. He not only kills maya’s influence but also removes any traces of it, represented by the elephant skin, so that it will not come up in future. The forest represents this world full of twists and turns and the unknown.

பிரம்மா, விஷ்ணு, தேவர்கள் என்ற அனைவரும் உலகமக்களைவிட மேலான நிலையில் இருந்தாலும் அவர்களும் மாயையின் வசப்பட்டவர்களே.  இவையனைத்தும் ஆத்மாவின் உணர்வு நிலைகளே.  இறைவன் அல்லது பரவுணர்வே மாயையினால் ஏற்படும் இந்த அளவுக்கு உட்பட்ட நிலைகளை விலக்கி பிறவியை ஒழிக்கிறது.  கானக்களிறு என்பது மாயையைக் குறிக்கும்.  யானையைப் போல சக்திவாய்ந்தது மாயையின் தாக்கம்.  அந்த யானை காட்டைப் போல பயமுறுத்தும் உலக வாழ்க்கையில் நம்மை அலைக்கழிக்கிறது. அதனை நமது முயற்சியால் மட்டும் அழிக்க இயலாது.  இறைவனின் உதவி தேவை.   சிவபெருமான் கஜாசுரனைக் கொன்று அவனது தோலை ஆடையாக அணிவது என்பது மாயையை ஒழித்து அதன் சாயைகூட இல்லாமல் செய்வதைக் குறிக்கிறது.
