1.2.10 He stands beyond the lotus flower, the ocean hued one, seeing everything

Verse 10

கடந்துநின் றான்கம லம்மல ராதி
கடந்துநின் றான்கடல் வண்ணன்அம் மாயன்
கடந்துநின் றான்அவர்க் கப்புறம் ஈசன்
கடந்துநின் றான்எங்கும் கண்டுநின் றானே. 

Translation:

He stood beyond the lotus flower etc

He stood beyond the ocean-hued one, that lord of maya

He stood beyond them, the Isa

He stood beyond, seeing everything.

Commentary:  Thirumular refers to Brahma when he says the Lord stood beyond the lotus flower.  “aadi” means both “and so on” as well as “origin”.  Vishnu is referred to as the one who has a hue like the ocean.  Thus, Isa, the Lord remains beyond everything.  He is the witness to everything. Just because he stands beyond them it does not mean that he is not aware of them-creation and sustenance.  He stands beyond them and yet they are under his watch.

கமலமலர் ஆதி என்ற தொடரினால் பிரம்மாவையும் படைப்புத்தொழிலையும் கடந்து இறைவன் நிற்கின்றான் என்கிறார் திருமூலர்.  கடல் வண்ணன் விஷ்ணு.  அவரைக் கடந்து நிற்பது என்பது காத்தல் என்ற தொழிலையும் கடந்து இறைவன் இருக்கின்றான் என்று பொருள்.  அவன் ஈசன்.  அந்த ஈசன் படைத்தலையும் காத்தலையும் கடந்து நிற்பதால் அவை அவனது கட்டுப்பாட்டில் இல்லை என்று பொருளல்ல என்பதைக் குறிக்க கடந்து நின்றான் அவற்றைக் கண்டு நின்றான் என்கிறார் திருமூலர்.
