1.2.20 He will remain as the axis in their minds

Verse 20
காணநில் லாயடி யேற்குற வாருளர்
நாணநில் லேன்உன்னை நான்தழு விக்கொளக்
கோணநில் லாத குணத்தடி யார்மனத்
தாணிய னாகி அமர்ந்து நின் றானே.

Translation:
Won’t you stand in such a way that I can see you, who do I have as a relative other than you?
I will not shy away from embracing you.
In the minds of those who have excellent character
He sits as the axis, the nail (firmly), he remains so.

Commentary: After suggesting that if one wants to reach Siva’s sacred feet one should sing his praise, Tirumular describes in the first two lines how one should sing his praise. A devotee should plead, “Please let me see you, I do not have anyone other than you as my relative”. For such supreme souls with excellent character the Lord will remain in their mind as a nail and prevent it from wavering due to worldly distractions. He will remain as the axis around which their entire life will revolve. Their thoughts, their actions and their words will all revolve around him.

முந்தைய பாடலில் சிவனின் பாதத்தை அடைய விரும்புபவர் அவனது துதியைப் பாடவேண்டும் என்று கூறிய திருமூலர் இப்பாடலில் எவ்வாறு ஒருவர் அவனைத் துதிக்கவேண்டும் என்று கூறுகிறார். “இறைவா! கண்ணுக்குத் தென்படாமல் இருக்கும் நீ நான் பார்க்கும்படி நிற்பாயா? எனக்கு உன்னைவிட்டால் யார் உறவு?” என்று ஒருவர் வேண்டிக்கொள்ள வேண்டும். இவ்வாறு வேண்டிக்கொள்ளும் உயர் ஆத்மாக்களுக்கு இறைவன் மனத்துள் ஆணியாக இருப்பான் என்கிறார் திருமூலர். அவர்களது மனம் உலக வாழ்க்கையால் அல்லாடாமல் இருக்க ஆணியைப் போல அதைப் பிடித்து வைத்திருப்பார். அவர்களது எண்ணம், வாக்கு, மனம் ஆகியவை ஆணியைப் போல அசையாமல் இருக்கும் அவனைச் சுற்றியே சுழலும் என்கிறார் திருமூலர்
