1.2.19 Method that should be followed to reach Siva

Verse 19
போற்றிசைத் தும்புகழ்ந் தும்புனி தன்னடி
தேற்றுமின் என்றுஞ் சிவனடிக் கேசெல்ல
மாற்றிய தென்று மயலுற்ற சிந்தையை
மாற்றிநின் றார்வழி மன்னிநின் றானே.

Translation:
Sing the praise, eulogize, the sacred one’s feet
Try consistently to go to Siva’s sacred feet
Acknowledging that he changed the
Mind that was delusional, I remained in his way.

Commentary: 

Thirumular gives a prescription for how to reach Siva’s sacred feet. If one sings the praise of Siva he will change the mind that is delusional due to maya. This also means that one should follow the path of realized souls who remain transforming their minds in such a way that they will reach Siva. Thirumular thus tells us that we should avoid self prescribed methods or the new and untested methods that fly by night gurus recommend but follow the time tested methods that realized souls have followed and attained the supreme state. Thirumular says that he is following this prescription himself.

சிவனின் திருவடியை எவ்வாறு அடைவது என்று திருமூலர் இப்பாடலில் கூறுகிறார். அவரைப் போற்றவேண்டும் புகழவேண்டும் அவரது திருவடியை ஏத்தவேண்டும். அவரே மாயை ஏற்படுத்தும் மன மயக்கத்தை மாற்றுகிறார் என்று உணர்ந்து நிற்பவர்களின் வழியில் நிற்க வேண்டும் என்கிறார் திருமூலர். இதன் மூலம் நாம் நமது மனது போனவழியில் நின்று அதுதான் இறைவனை அடையும் வழி என்று பேசக்கூடாது எண்ணக்கூடாது. இறைவனை அடைந்தோர் நின்ற வழியில்தான் நாம் நிற்கவேண்டும் அதுவே சரியான வழி என்கிறார் திருமூலர். நாளொருமேனியும் பொழுதொரு வண்ணமும் பிறக்கும் புதுப்புது வழிகளையும் குருக்களையும் தவிர்க்கவேண்டும். உண்மையாக இறைவனை உணர்ந்தோரின் வழியைத் தேடி அடையவேண்டும் என்கிறார் அவர்.
