1.2.49 The lord is beyond the two actions

Verse 49
ஈசன் இருக்கும் இருவினைக் கப்புறம்
பீசம் உலகிற் பெருந்தெய்வ மானது
ஈசன் அதுஇது என்பார் நினைப்பிலார்
தூசு பிடித்தவர் தூரறிந் தார்களே.

Translation:
Isa remains beyond the fruits of past and future actions
The seed, the great lord of the world
Those who do not know will say Isa is “this and that”
They are dusty, the ignorant.

Commentary:
Tirumular says that the Lord is beyond the fruits of all actions, good and bad. An action yields fruit only if the person doing it assumes doer-ship. If it is done without any attachment to the job or its effect, that is, it is done as nishkama karma, the fruits do not accrue to the doer. Thus, the Lord is beyond the karma. Tirumular says that those who speak of him otherwise are ignoramus.

Another interpretation for this verse is that the state of Isa, the fourth among the pancha kartha or five doers is beyond the innate impurity, karma.

ஈசன் இருவினைகளான நல்வினை தீவினை களுக்கு அப்பாற்பட்டவன் என்கிறார் திருமூலர். வினை என்பது பலனளிக்கக் கூடிய செயல். ஒரு செயலைச் செய்பவர் தான் அதைச் செய்கிறோம் என்று எண்ணினாலோ அதன் பயனை அனுபவிப்பவர் தான் என்று எண்ணினாலோ அந்தச் செயல் அவருக்கு நல்வினையாகவோ தீவினையாகவோ மாறும். அவ்வாறு எண்ணாமல் அச்செயலை நிஷ்காம கர்மமாக, பயனை எதிர்பார்க்காமல் செய்யும் செயலாகச் செய்தால் அது அவரது வினைச்சுமையைச் சேராது. இவ்வாறு ஈசன் இருவினைக்கும் அப்பாற்பட்டவன் என்கிறார் திருமூலர். அவரைப் பற்றி வேறுவிதமாகப் பேசுபவர் தூசு பிடித்தவர் என்கிறார் திருமூலர்.
ஈசன் என்னும் நிலை ஐந்து மலங்களில் கர்ம மலம் நீங்கிய நிலை. அதனால் திருமூலர் இவ்வாறு கூறுகிறார் என்றும் இதற்குப் பொருள் கூறலாம்.
