44. I practice what I preach

Verse 44 

அடியார் பரவும் அமரர் பிரானை
முடியால் வணங்கி முதல்வனை முன்னிப்
படியார் அருளும் பரம்பரன் எந்தை
விடியா விளக்கென்று மேவிநின் றேனே.

Translation:

The Lord of the liberated souls, the one whom devotees eulogize

Saluting him by bowing down, seeking the Supreme One

The Paraparan who grants everything, my father

I remain associated with him considering him as the eternal lamp that is never put out.

Commentary:

Tirumular explained in the previous verse that there is no point in performing austerities or rituals if one does not keep the Lord in his mind, contemplate on him.  In this verse he tells us that he is practicing what he is preaching.  He remains associated with the Lord whom he calls his father, the one who is eulogized by the liberated souls, the one who grants all wishes and the eternal lamp that is never put out.  The lamp mentioned here is the lamp of consciousness.

ஒருவர் இல்லத்தாராக இருக்கிறாரா துறவியா என்பது முக்கியமில்லை, அவர் மனத்தில் இறைவனை எப்போதும் வைத்திருக்கிறாரா என்பதுதான் முக்கியம் என்று திருமூலர் கூறினார்.  இப்பாடலில் தான் உபதேசித்ததை தானே கடைப்பிடிக்கிறேன் என்று கூறுகிறார்.  தான் இறைவனை மேவி நின்றேன். அந்த இறைவன் அமரருக்கு அதிபதி, அடியார்களால் வழிபடப்படுபவன், முதல்வன், எல்லாவற்றையும் அருளுபவன், தனது தந்தை, அணையா விளக்கு என்று அவர் கூறுகிறார்.
