Verse 43
மனையுள் இருந்தவர் மாதவர் ஒப்பர்
நினைவுள் இருந்தவர் நேசத்துள் நிற்பர்
பனையுள் இருந்த பருந்தது போல
நினையாத வர்க்கில்லை நீள்இன்பந் தானே.
நினைவுள் இருந்தவர் நேசத்துள் நிற்பர்
பனையுள் இருந்த பருந்தது போல

Translation:
House holders are like those who perform great austerities
Those who hold within their thoughts will remain in love
Like the kite within the palm tree
The long bliss is not possible for those who do not contemplate
Commentary:
Tirumular dispels the misconception that one has to be a sanyasi to attain liberation. In the first line he says that a householder is equally qualified to receive the Lord’s grace as an austere person. This is similar to Sivavaakiyar’s idea that when one leads a proper householders’ life where he feeds others Siva will come and partake food at his place, visit him. The life stories of Nayanmars’ vouch for this. Whether it is a householder of a tapasvi, if he holds the Supreme in his mind he will remain immersed in love as God is love. However, this boon is not possible for those who perform mere rituals whether it is householders’ duties or an sanyasin’s austerities. Tirumular says that this is like a kite that remains on top of a palm tree. The bird is not benefitted by the fruits of the tree even when it is remaining with the tree. Thus, the mind and the attitude are two important components in Divine experience.

ஒருவர் மனையைத் துறந்து சந்நியாசியானால்தான் முக்தியடைய முடியும் என்ற கருத்தை மறுக்கிறார் திருமூலர். இல்லறத்தில் இருந்து தமது கடமைகளைச் செய்பவர்கள் தவசீலர்களை ஒத்தவர்கள் என்கிறார் அவர். சிவவாக்கியரும் இதே கருத்தைத் தனது பாடல்களில் கூறியுள்ளார். யார் இல்லறத்தில் இருந்துகொண்டு பிறருக்கு உணவளித்து வருகிறாரோ அவரது வீட்டுற்கு சிவனே வருவார் என்று சிவவாக்கியர் கூறுகிறார். நாயன்மார்களின் சரித்திரங்கள் இது உண்மை என்பதை நமக்குக் காட்டுகின்றன.
சந்தியாசியாக இருந்தாலும் சரி இல்லறத்தானாக இருந்தாலும் சரி, யார் இறைவனை மனதுள் வைத்திருக்கிறாரோ அவரே இறையுணர்வில், அன்பில், திளைத்திருப்பார் என்கிறார் திருமூலர். அதனால் ஒருவரது எண்ணம் ஏதுவாக இருக்கிறது என்பதுதான் முக்கியம். துறவறத்தில் இருந்துகொண்டு இறைவனை சிந்தையுனுள் வைக்காவிட்டால் எவ்வித பயனுமில்லை. இது பனைமரத்தில் இருக்கும் பருந்தை ஒத்தது. பனைமரத்தின் பொருட்களால் அந்தப் பருந்துக்கு ஒரு பயனும் ஏற்படுவது இல்லை.
