1.2.40 I made the Pure One glow in my love

Verse 40

போற்றிஎன் பார்அம ரர்புனி தன்அடி
போற்றிஎன் பார்அசு ரர்புனி தன்அடி
போற்றிஎன் பார்மனி தர்புனி தன்அடி
போற்றிஎன் அன்புள் பொலியவைத் தேனே. 

Translation:

The supreme souls will say, “Praise to the Pure One’s feet”

The asura will say, “Praise to the Pure One’s feet”

The humans will say, “Praise to the Pure One’s feet”

Praising it I made it glow within my love.

Commentary:

The concept of love has an important place in Tirumandiram.  This is not love towards a particular entity.  It is not an emotional response born as a result of a particular experience.  It is universal love.  Tirumular defines this love as Sivam. According to him the state at the pinnacle of Supreme consciousness is love. Hence, he says that he made the Supreme One glow within love.  He is describing the state of Sivam here.

அன்பு என்னும் தத்துவம் திருமந்திரத்தில் முக்கியமான இடத்தை வகிக்கிறது.  இது ஒரு பொருளைக் குறித்தோ ஒரு செயலுக்கு எதிர்விளைவாகவோ எனப்படும் உணர்ச்சியல்ல.  இது எல்லையற்ற தூய உணர்வு.  இதைத்தான் திருமூலர் அன்பே சிவம் என்கிறார். இது பரவுணர்வு நிலையின் உச்சத்தில் ஏற்படுவது.  அதனால் திருமூலர் புனிதனான இறைவனைப் போற்றித் தனது அன்பில் பொலிய வைத்தேன் என்கிறார்.
