1.4.3 They are like letters on water surface

பாடல் எண் : 3

அண்ணல் அருளால் அருளுந்திவ் யாகமம்
விண்ணில் அமரர் தமக்கும் விளங்கரி
தெண்ணில் எழுபது கோடிநூ றாயிரம்
எண்ணிலும் நீர்மேல் எழுத்தது ஆகுமே. 

Translation:

The sacred agama graced by the Lord

Are incomprehensible even to the liberated souls

When counted they are seven crore, hundred thousand

Even when counted they become letters on water surface.

Commentary:

Tirumular says that one cannot count the number of agamas that Siva granted to souls and that they are very esoteric.  They are like letters on water surface. They are as difficult to comprehend as letters on the surface of water that disappear quickly.

இறைவன் அருளிய ஆகமங்கள் எண்ணற்றவை என்றும் அவற்றைப் புரிந்துகொள்ள விண்ணவர் எனப்படும் முக்தாத்மாக்களாலும் இயலாது என்றும் கூறும் திருமூலர் அவர் நீரின் மேல் எழுதிய எழுத்தைப் போன்றவை என்கிறார்.  எவ்வாறு நீரின்மேல் எழுதிய எழுத்தைப் படிப்பது கடினமோ அதேபோல் ஆகமத்தைப் புரிந்துகொள்வதும் கடினம்.
