1.2.52 Lord's command to Tirumular

Verse 52

ஓலக்கஞ் சூழ்ந்த உலப்பிலி தேவர்கள்
பாலொத்த மேனி பணிந்தடி யேன்தொழ
மாலுக்கும் ஆதிப் பிரமற்கும் ஒப்புநீ
ஞாலத்து நம்மடி நல்கிடென் றானே.

Translation:

The celestial salute to the

Milk-like body.  When I did so

“You are equivalent to Vishnu and the Brahma

You come to our feet in the world,” he said.

Commentary:

The celestials salute to the Lord whose body is milk-like in hue.  Some commentators say that it is because of the sacred ash being smeared on it.  Tirumular says that when he saluted the Lord’s sacred feet the Lord told him to seek his feet in the world.  That is, he told Tirumular to mingle in the world while keeping his focus on the sacred feet.

வானவர்கள் பால்வண்ண இறைவனின் திருவடியை வணங்குகின்றனர் என்கிறார் திருமூலர். இறைவனின் உடல் விபூதி பூசியதால் வெண்மையாக உள்ளது என்று சில உரையாசிரியர்கள் கூறுகின்றனர்.  அத்தகைய இறைவனைத் திருமூலர் பணிந்தபோது அவன் இவ்வுலகில் தனது அடியைத் தொழுமாறு கூறினான் என்கிறார் திருமூலர்.  அதாவது, உலக வாழ்க்கையில் புகுந்து தான் இட்ட பணியைச் செய்தவண்ணம் தனது அடியை மறவாத வண்ணம் இருக்குமாறு இறைவன் திருமூலருக்குக் கூறினான் என்கிறார் அவர்.
