1.2.55 Why does the Lord remain as several?

Verse 55

பரத்திலே ஒன்றாய்உள் ளாய்ப்புற மாக
வரத்தினுள் மாயவ னாய்அய னாகித்
தரத்தினுள் தான்பல தன்மைய னாகிக்
கரத்தினுள் நின்று கழிவுசெய் தானே.

As the singularity in param, as inside and outside

As the Mayava and Brahma in the world

He became one with several qualities,- in the world

He stands hidden and performs destruction.

Commentary:

The Divine remains as singularity in the state of Param.  It remains within the souls and outside as the manifested world.  It remains as Vishnu or the Lord of Maya and as Brahma.  It also remains as millions of life forms with different qualities, in the world.  It remains in secrecy and destroys the distinctions

இறைவனே அனைத்துமாக உருமாறி நிற்பவன் என்று கூறியபிறகு இப்பாடலில் திருமூலர் அவன் ஏன் அவ்வாறு நிற்கிறான் என்று கூறுகிறார்.  இறைவனே ஒருமை நிலையில் பரமாக, உள்ளும் புறமுமாக மாயையின் அதிபதியான மாயவனாக பிரம்மனாக பல குணங்களைக் கொண்ட உயிர்களாக நிற்பவன்.  அவன் அவ்வாறு ரகசியமாக நிற்பதற்குக் காரணம் இந்த பாகுபாடுகளை பல்வேறாக இருக்கும் நிலையை ஒழித்து ஒருமை நிலையைப் பெறவைப்பதற்கே என்கிறார் திருமூலர்.
