1.2.29 They do not know the path, they remain sad

Verse 29
பதிபல வாயது பண்டிவ் வுலகம்
விதிபல செய்தொன்றும் மெய்ம்மை உணரார்
துதிபல தோத்திரஞ் சொல்லவல் லாரும்
மதியிலர் நெஞ்சினுள் வாடுகின் றாரே.

Translation:
This ancient world has several loci/leaders
Creating several rules they do not know the truth
Even those who are capable of singing several praises
Are stupid, they feel sad in their hearts.

Commentary: Tirumular says that there are several who claim that they are the lords of this world. People also claim that there are several gods who are the supreme. Such people stipulate several rules for living, for rituals, for worship and for liberation. However, none of them know the truth. They do not know the true nature of the Lord, the true worship, or what liberation really means. Hence, they are sad in their hearts.

இவ்வுலகில் பலர் தாம்தான் எஜமான் என்று கூறுகின்றன. மேலும் பலர் பல தெய்வங்களைக் காட்டி யார் உயர்ந்தவர் என்று சண்டை போட்டுக்கொள்கின்றனர். இந்த மக்கள் சடங்குகள், வழிபாடு முக்தி ஆகியவற்றைப் பற்றித் தான்தோன்றித் தனமான விதிகளை ஏற்படுத்துகின்றனர். இவர்களில் ஒருவருக்கும் உண்மை தெரியவில்லை, யார் இறைவன், எவ்வாறு அவரை வழிபடுவது, முக்தி என்றால் உண்மையில் என்ன என்பது இவர்களுக்குத் தெரிவதில்லை. அதனால் அவர்கள் மனநிம்மதியற்று மனம்வாடுகின்றனர்.
