1.2.39 Devotion

Verse 39

அரனடி சொல்லி அரற்றி அழுது
பரனடி நாடியே பாவிப்ப நாளும்
உரனடி செய்தங் கொதுங்கவல் லார்க்கு
நிரனடி செய்து நிறைந்துநின் றானே.

Translation:

Crying in devotion praising the feet of Hara

Seek the feet of Paran daily

For those who have firm faith in the sacred feet and seek refuge there

He remained there as fully complete.

Commentary:

There is a conjecture that the Siddhas are against bhakti or devotion.  This verse dispels that misconception.  The first line of the verse says how one should pray to the Lord.  One should cry copiously with devotion, seek only the sacred feet and no other benefit, one should seek them daily at all times, they should hold the feet as their sole refuge with fortitude.  For such souls the Supreme will fill them and remain.

சித்த மார்க்கத்தில் பக்திக்கு இடமில்லை என்ற தவறான கருத்தை இப்பாடல் பொய் என்று காட்டுகிறது.  இப்பாடலின் முதல் வரியில் திருமூலர் ஒருவர் அரனது அடியைப் போற்றி பிரிவாற்றாமையால் அழுது அரற்றி நாளும் அதையே நாடவேண்டும் என்றும் மன உரத்துடன் அந்தத் திருவடிகளே தனக்குப் புகழ் என்று இருக்கவேண்டும், அந்த அடிகளைத் தவிர பிற பலன்களை வேண்டக்கூடாது என்றும் அவ்வாறு இருப்பவரை இறைவன் நிறைத்து அங்கு நிற்பான் என்கிறார்.
