1.2.37 For those who are capable of praising him-2

Verse 37

சினஞ்செய்த நஞ்சுண்ட தேவர் பிரானைப்
புனஞ்செய்த நெஞ்சிடை போற்றவல் லார்க்குக்
கனஞ்செய்த வார்குழல் பாகனும் அங்கே
இனஞ்செய்த மான்போல் இணங்கிநின் றானே.

Translation:

The angry Lord, the Deva who consumed poison,

Those who are capable of praising him in their hearts making him the upland

The herder with fragrant hair

Will remain in harmony like a deer.

Commentary:

Sinam refers to the poison that emerged from the milky ocean with great vigor.  Siva consumed the poison to save the world.  Punam means upland that is used for cultivation.  A punam is created by clearing the forest in the hills and making it fit for cultivation. Here it refers to the devotee clearing his heart from all evil qualities and making it fit for cultivating devotion. The term "vaar kuzhal paagan" means Ardha nareesvara who has Sakthi with fragrant hair as a part.  This term may also refer to the Lord who has fragrant hair and who is our paagan or herder, Pati.  The Lord will remain, like a deer, in the hearts of those who are capable of praising him. 

சினம் என்ற சொல் சீறி எழுந்த ஆலகால விஷத்தைக் குறிக்கிறது.  இந்த விஷத்தைச் சிவபெருமான் உலகைக் காக்க தான் அருந்தினார்.  புனம் என்பது மலையில் உள்ள காட்டைச் செப்பனிட்டு விளைநிலமாக மாற்றிய இடத்தைக் குறிக்கிறது.  இங்கே அது தீயவற்றை அழித்து பக்தியைப் பயிர் செய்யக் கூடிய மனத்தைக் குறிக்கிறது.  வார் குழல் பாகன் என்பது மாதொரு பாகனான இறைவனைக் குறிக்கிறது.  அது மணம் பொருந்திய குழலையுடைய, நம்மை மேய்ப்பவனான, பதியான இறைவனைக் குறிக்கிறது என்றும் கூறலாம்.  அத்தகைய இறைவன், அவனைப் போற்ற வல்லார் மனதில் மான் போல் இணங்கி இருப்பான் என்கிறார் திருமூலர்.
